A CHAT WITH OUR  VOLUNTEERS
(second in series, more to follow)

Ashley Scott Denness

Q. How long have you been volunteering at the Pilands Wood Centre?
A.  About a year.

Q.What made you start volunteering?
A. I had never volunteered before but I came in to the Centre to enquire about a free course and just got talking to someone. I was out of work at the time and I thought it would be something to do.

Q. Why have you carried on volunteering?
A. I enjoy helping out and getting involved. Learning new skills and doing courses which are useful in my working life.  I have recently completed a risk assessment course and hope to do first aid soon.

Q. What sort of things do you do at the Centre?
All sorts.  Mike Elliott is in charge of the buildings maintenance and we decide on things to do.  Phil the co-ordinator keeps a book with maintenance work to be done.
As you can see I am painting the toilets today!!

Q.Tell us a little about yourself Ashley.
A. Well I am 19 years old and work full time in the construction industry.  I live locally and my girlfriend and I have been together for more than 2 years.

Q.How do you see your future?
A. I would like to carry on studying and learning new skills.  Hopefully one day I will have my own business.  Get married
And have children.  But first I would like to pass my driving test!!
