Pilands Wood Community Association began with a meeting of local residents in 1992 to form a steering group with a view to becoming a community association, with hopes for a new community centre. The Community Association’s constitution was accepted in 1994 and the following year we were awarded charitable status.
Planning for the new community centre began in 1999 when the redevelopment of Pilands Wood was completed. Fundraising began in earnest to raise money for the longed-for community centre. Activities included weekly bingo sessions, a monthly draw and an annual Fun Day, activities that continue in order to help fund the running costs of the building. Building began in September 2001 and was completed in August 2002, the official opening being performed by HRH The Princess Royal.
Since moving into the new community centre, the Community Association has set up Magpies Parents & Toddlers Group, and two youth clubs run by a team of volunteers under the guidance of the Hampshire County Youth Service.
Membership of Pilands Wood Community Association is open to anyone living within the Area of Benefit as defined in the constitution, namely: Pilands Wood, Warwick Gardens and Old Netley. Membership application forms are available from the office.
